The duration of study in the Department of Child Development, which is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences, is 8 semesters, encompassing 4 years. The education curriculum has been created in accordance with the National Core Education Program for Child Development (ÇÜÇEP), prepared by the Council of Higher Education to ensure standardization in child development education across the country, and the contents of departments in other countries, especially in Europe. In the Department of Child Development at Tarsus University, the curriculum prepared in line with the National Core Education Program for Child Development of the Council of Higher Education includes not only the main courses related to child development but also the basic professional courses. Our students support their professional courses with theoretical education as well as practical training in university laboratories, units such as hospitals and health centers affiliated with the Ministry of Health, schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education and special education centers, and units affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Services. During their undergraduate education, students are offered various elective courses to provide an interdisciplinary education. In order to graduate from the Child Development undergraduate program, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.00, a total ECTS load of 240, and successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses. The program language is Turkish. Graduates who successfully complete the Child Development undergraduate program are awarded the title of "Child Development Specialist.
The Department of Child Development trains expert child development specialists who evaluate and support the cognitive, language, motor, social, and emotional development and self-care skills of children aged 0-18, including those who are typically developing, disabled, in need of protection, working, refugee, pushed to crime, and hospitalized. Our graduates can work as child development specialists in various private and public institutions. Child development specialists determine children's developmental levels, prepare appropriate education and support programs, carefully monitor children's development processes, make adjustments when necessary, and create environments that support proper development. Providing consultancy to families, educators, and institutions and organizations serving in the field of child development, as well as collaborating with these organizations and different disciplines, are among the important responsibilities of child development specialists. Child development specialists who successfully graduate from the department can continue their education in national and international universities for master's and doctoral degrees, provided they meet the relevant requirements.
